In the early 1980’s, with the help of Georges Lys Herard also known as Master Dji, the Haitian Music Industry made acquaintance with this new musical genre called Rap Kreyol (Hip Hop Kreyol). Master Dji made his name throughout the late 1980’s and the early 1990’s with hit songs like “Vakans”, “Tann Pou Tann”, “Manmzel” etc… Master Dji’s movement gave birth to many rap kreyol groups for example Haiti Rap’N’ Ragga and Original Rap Staff. Master Dji died in the mid 1990’s with a dream, a dream that this movement will develop into a well respected and appreciated one in the Caribbean Nation, Haiti. In the year 2000, some 18 years later, in an effort to keep Master Dji’s dream alive, 509BOYZ was founded.
509BOYZ’s sound is modern hip-hop in Creole with a twist of English here and there. The group is composed of 3 people, Jay Bugg, Phat-g, AC, all three of them are Haitian natives. In the near future, the group has intentions to expand in a live band format and step away from doing playback, just to have broader horizon in the Haitian music industry. The group had their first album “011-509” which came out in May 2006. 509boyz currently have a mixtape out called “Kreyol Hip Hop 101”. 509boyz has already performed at many major local shows, for example: Independence Festival, Kompa Festival, local talent shows, and many more hip Hop Shows in the South Florida vicinity.
509boyz’s strength comes from their passion for what they do and their professionalism. The group works hard everyday to come up with high quality products for its fans. The group reaches back to their roots to create new ideas for their music. Though it’s very hard for an up and coming group to make it in the Haitian Music Industry (HMI), 509boyz is always ready mentally for the challenges and obstacles that they expect to face throughout their career paths.
The group is currently working on its second album, which is scheduled to be released later in the year 2008. The hit single “Beaute Kreyol” is getting major airplay on all the Haitian radio stations and a video is in the making.
509boyz’s main goal is to unite the Haitian communities worldwide through their music and bring the movement further as far in the American market. For booking, contact 509BOYZ at:

Zobyno Squad of FloridaZobyno squad is a group of four mc's one from Gonaives, one from grand Riviere du Nord, and two from Cap-Haitien. They have known each other for a very long time but didn’t start rapping together till 1997. Their swag and bravado is what many people in the movement appreciate and if you ask them, they feel like they’re the true representative of Creole Hip Hop because they rap strictly in Creole. Their music is for every generation, whether you’re young or old, old school or new school, Zobyno squad has something for you. Their debut album, “Jwet la Chanjé” is due out later this year, an LP that is based on not only the politics of music yet life lessons and realities. Their hope is that they can get some respect from their peers but most importantly catch on with the mainstream industry.
